Not only has Dr. Hahn given new hope to many individuals suffering from debilitating psychological symptoms, he's also coached those already functioning very well (e.g., competitive athletes, artists, or executives) to function even better. It has been Dr. Hahn's pleasure to witness his clients achieve many of their personal, occupational and relationship goals over time.
Dr. Hahn's approach to psychotherapy is based upon developing a nuanced understanding of a client's situation and creating a non-judgmental, comfortable space where problem solving and growth can occur. Dr. Hahn has found integrating different psychotherapeutic techniques (especially psychodynamic, interpersonal and cognitive behavioral) as particularly helpful. Within the first few psychotherapy sessions, Dr. Hahn assist his clients with expanding their understanding of thoughts, feelings, behaviors and circumstances associated with their psychological symptoms. The initial short term use of cognitive-behavioral and solution focused therapeutic techniques typically results in rapid relief of psychological symptoms with significant improvement of distress often occurring within the first few sessions. Once sufficiently stabilized, Dr. Hahn encourages clients to engage in processes of self-reflection, typically facilitated by the use of psychodynamic, interpersonal, and existential techniques. Ultimately, the insight derived from the later stages of psychotherapy provide my clients with an understanding about such matters as why they do what they do or why they chose the kinds of partners that we do. Such insights often result in significantly improved relationships; better performance in employment, creative and/or athletic pursuits; and greater overall quality of life.
